Only true GT-R owners will understand it.
I have been shooting cars for almost 10 years now, and back in my college time in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I was shooting many GT-Rs ranging from R32 to R34, but this R34 V-spec II based GT-R you see here is one of the wild beast I have ever shot. You guys at Speed Creed community would understand why I said that.
To all of the Gold and Silver members of Speed Creed, please meet NomeXX
, the owner of this ’Godzilla’. Well, I got to know NomeXX from my friend Will
, and we were able to set up a photoshoot at Pantai Mutiara one late afternoon.
According to NomeXX, ”the R34 is the last true GT-R, the last of the evolution in the technology, and it’s the last version”. To him, the true Godzilla legend died with the R34, and the brand new version of GT-R R35 will never be as good as the R34 - it may be faster, more comfortable, more refined, better built, but that’s not the point and only true GT-Ra and true owners will understand that. For your information, NomeXX owned a R35 as well (recently sold), so I truly believe that he can proof that from his experience.
NomeXX got a hold of his R34 back in 2006. His cousin saw it in one of the private car importers. What a surprise for him that he found a zero mileage car with every single panel, engine, trims, windows and suspension brand new. Lucky you!
His original modification plan for his Godzilla was just for something mild like cams, ECU, intake, exhaust, and a little increase in boost. But his passion towards car would not let him stop in just a mild tune job. Serious engine modification came to his thought; unfortunately it was not easy to find a car mechanic who really knows much about the RB engine. According to NomeXX, "the RB26 is that 'old skool' solid lifter cast iron straight six that can get quite temperamental if not built right." That’s why he came up with a "plug-and-play" idea of dropping in a full set of Tomei RB28 Genesis engine. It took about 3 months for NomeXX to do research on the modifications he wanted, until he knew exactly what engine specs he wanted, turbo sizing, aero package, suspension and all other related modifications.
More over, NomeXX talked to his old friend who is the official importer of Tomei products and owns a very reputable speed shop as well. Basically NomeXX mentioned everything of what he wanted, his driving style, his primary purpose of use, then they recommended the spec for Tomei to build.
According to NomeXX, it took about 2 months for Tomei to build the engine, and the whole process from start to finish took about 6-9 months.
As for the final touch on the engine modifications, NomeXX’s Tomei R34 was tuned by Mr. Jun Furukawa who is based in Singapore.
So basically, the entire car was built by mechanics from Singapore, and NomeXX had to fly them over every time he needs a big complex job done.
As for the exterior look, NomeXX wanted to keep the look as original as possible and he is more toward functionality rather than aesthetic, that’s why he prefer to use Nismo Z-Tune kit that has very simple design without altering much of the original shape and design of the car. One good opinion from him is that "all the exterior mods are there for a purpose - every vent and fin are there for a reason." This idea is applied to his interior styling too, as he wanted a stock-looking interior except for the seats. Since the stock ones do not provide enough lateral support due to them being too high and heavy, he decided to use Bride carbon seats that are much lighter.
It was getting dark and I did not have much time to do the action/motion shoot, but I got the chance to hear the straight six scream and roar through titanium exhaust when NomeXX floored it after the photosession. Hmmmm, that sounded outrageous.
Last but not least, be careful when you drive behind this beast, because he likes looking at the reaction of the driver behind him when he ‘backs-off’ the throttle and a 4-feet long fireball spit out of the tailpipe!!!
Oh ya, I almost forgot, NomeXX would like to say thanks to Speed Creed crew for the tireless efforts.
and finally let these pictures talk more.............cheers
