  • [NEWS] It's Here: The Mercedes-AMG Project One

Last year Mercedes-AMG announced that they were going to make a hypercar with F1 technologies producing well over 1,000 horsepower. It's certainly interesting to see what this Formula 1-winning can come up with when it comes to hypercars. Well here it is; the Project One. The name is just ridiculous though.

The Project One does look bonkers, although personally I'm not a fan. The rear-end is sort of alright, but turn to the front and it looks like it has a massive mouth and is just incredibly angry at something for no reason. That said, the performance is quite angry. At least from what we got, it does seem like it. The only figure we've got is that it can do 0-124mph (200km/h) in under 6 seconds. To put it into perspective, put it head to head against a Toyota GT86, and by the time the Project One reaches 200km/h, the GT86 wouldn't even have hit 100km/h. Good lord.

All this performance comes from a 1.6L turbocharged V6 derived from an F1 engine, assisted with three electric motors, each one producing 161 horsepower. Despite being derived for the road, the V6 can still spin up to 11,000rpm. Honestly? That's fine with us.

There's a multi-link suspension at the front and rear, utilising adjustable coilovers with push-spring struts. The wheels meanwhile are wrapped in Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires with 285/35/19 at the front, and 335/30/20 at the rear.

The interior does look incredibly simple, it doesn't look like it isn't worthy of the £2.4 million price tag. However, it does kind of look like the interior of a really elegant and expensive race car, and considering that Mercedes is promising a power figure North of 1,000 horsepower, we can forgive Mercedes for the bonkers price tag. But not for the ridiculous look though.
