  • [NEWS] RWD Fun: Would You Go For This Rear-Wheel Drive Audi R8?

One of the arguments of not to buy high-performance Audis is that we don't really need their Quattro AWD system in Indonesia. It never snows, Indonesians rarely use high-performance cars on a day-to-day basis, and when we do want to take it out it depends greatly on weather, if it's raining then just forget about it. So would you go for this then, the Audi R8 RWS:

It is Audi's first ever rear-wheel drive sports car. Yes ladies and gentlemen, the Audi R8 has gone rear-wheel drive. Dubbed as the RWS for Rear Wheel Series, this Audi R8 has gotten rid of the Quattro system and is now 50kg lighter, and 40kg for the Spider version.

It still packs the R8's 533 horsepower 5.2L V10, with a 0-100km/h time of 3.7 seconds and onto a top speed of 198mph.

We know what you're thinking, "but does it drift?" Yes, yes it does. The RWS has 60% of it's weight distributed to the rear-axle, and put it on Dynamic mode or Sport ESC mode and you can kick the tail out in what Audi calls "particularly entertaining driving…"

Just 999 of the RWS will be made, and it's probably all out but we got the feeling Audi will be making more of these should they see the demand exist. This seems to be the perfect Audi for the Indonesian market; rear-wheel drive means there's no tax on the unnecessary AWD system, and it's more affordable as well than the Huracan, which also has an RWD model called the 580-2. This said, the Huracan and the Audi R8 is really looking like a pair of twins where the parents doesn't want to pick favorites so they get exactly the same christmas gifts every year.

Anyway, we pretty much like the idea of this R8, but we could do without that ghastly looking stripe, would you go for the RWS than a standard R8?
