  • [NEWS] Throwback Thursday: The Mini 1499GT Edition

The whole idea of Mini is about retro-design, so even though the company is now German-owned, it's really no surprise if they make some sort of homage for one of their models as a more tasteful way to do throwback Thursdays. If you're a Mini enthusiast, then you would have guessed - thanks to the obvious picture above - that the 1499GT is a homage to the 1275GT model, where Mini took out their rather small 998cc engine and fitted it with 1275cc instead, hence the 1275GT designation.

The 1499GT then obviously has the smaller 1.5L 3-cylinder engine, however, this isn't the usual 1.5L engine we know which makes 136 horsepower, this 1.5L engine has been tuned down to make just 101 horsepower, in order to replace the now redundant 1.2L unit to simplify the production line, so don't expect this 1499GT to go that fast.

0-100km/h takes a leisurely 10.1 seconds, but surprisingly it's been fitted with a sportier suspension setting so it should handle rather well, and it's also got John Cooper Works Sport Pack, which is fitted as standard. It includes 17-inch black alloy wheels, window tints, white indicators plus JCW front/rear bumpers, side skirts and a boot spoiler, and we must say it looks rather good.

You can have it in either Pepper White with black 1499GT decals or Midnight Black with gold decals, we're not sure if Maxindo will bring some units over to the country, but if you're interested why not ring up your favorite dealership? Since only 1499 units are being made.
