  • [NEWS] Ferrari Is Working On The 488 GTO

The Ferrari 488 GTB is by no means a slow car with it's V8 engine producing 661 horsepower, but with the Porsche GT2 being super fast and McLaren's 720S is capable of annihilating the 488, Ferrari is obviously not happy, and they're going to do something about that.

This more hardcore version of the 488 is going to be called the GTO, which will be their fourth car in history to wear the prestigious badge. A bit of a lesson; the GTO name is supposed to be reserved for their road-cars which goes road-racing, such as the 250 GTO. However, ever since the 599 GTO, the name has been used simply for their track-focused road cars, and it's fine although somewhat annoying for us.

Anyway, the 488 GTO is going to continue their tradition of making more hardcore version of their mid-engine V8 supercars. Think of it as the successor of the 458 Speciale.

The 488 GTO is argeted to have at least 700 horsepower, with the interior being stripped of any sorts of luxury as well as thinner glass. You probably won't get carpets as standard. Autocar predicts that the 488 GTO will be capable of doing 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds, and 0-200km/h in 7.5 seconds, faster than the 720S and the GT2.

That said, there were rumours that McLaren is going to make 'Longtail' version of the 720S, a track-focused car of the standard 720S. So we expect that to be even faster. Still, we're excited to see what Ferrari will be doing on their next hardcore supercar.
